The heart like an atom

The heart like an atom
splits and spills light across the strangeness
of this year. A birth, a death.
I remember, in physics, the strongest force
is said to build with distance,
until the growing ache breaks space
into matter. As a broken eye alone can see
the world's true nature: a yellow finch
rising into falling leaves.

Thanks Ed Markowski. I stole your finch.
