Wendy Ewell

Many people are dropping in via search engines looking for Wendy Noteboom Ewell, my sister. Therefore let me note here that her funeral is scheduled for 1:00 this Saturday at the Holy Family Shrine near Gretna, Nebraska.

If you know Wendy you know she'd be pissed off if we held a mass for her -- it won't be a mass. Despite its uberCatholic name, the shrine is a place of glass, water, prairie grass, wildflowers, light -- she would like it. We hope it will be a place where she can be remembered, in lieu of a grave. Please don't send flowers. She would hate big white glads, you know she would. There will be daisies and black-eyed susans picked locally instead. There will be Bach and Willy Nelson.

A scholarship is being set up in Wendy's name. I don't have details about that yet.

James (my husband) is keeping his blog up-to-date about the funeral, memorial, scholarship, etc. I suggest you check there for further or more current information.

I'm thinking of you, Erin, and your family and Wendy's husband and friends, especially today as you say "goodbye". I put that in speech marks because in my ( admittedly limited) experience of these matters, we never really say goodbye to those we love. But their physical absence can be terrible.
