Ghost Maps Shortlisted for Acorn

Here's the News I was trying to confirm for the Exciting Annoucement. (My inlaws thought: grandchild. Because I'm dreaming of the day when I annouce a pregnancy on cable access instead of telling my loved ones directly. Can you imagine my Mom's face when she gets the tape?)

On to the News: The Shortlist for the Acorn-Plantos Award for People's Poetry is as follows:

John B. LEE - Totally Unused Heart
Black Moss Press
Jill MacLEAN - The Brevity of Red
Signature Editions
Erin NOTEBOOM - Ghost Maps
Wolsak and Wynn
Peter RICHARDSON - An ABC of Belly Work
Signal / Vehicule Press
Goran SIMIC - Immigrant Blues
Brick Books

The winner of the Acorn-Plantos Award will be announced on November 1st.

I know this better as the Milton Acorn award. (Is "Plantos" Ted Plantos? I hope so.....) As I understand it, "people's poetry" means populist in subject matter (as Milton Acorn was) and (that word again) accessible. An honour -- I am a huge fan of Simic particularly.

Congratulations! Woohoo!

Great news! All fingers and toes crossed!
[And we were NOT thinking pregnancy...]

Well, maybe you weren't, but Eric says he was. (Actually he says "we were," but I should learn to take this with a grain of salt.)
