(cathedral)

oh let us worship the lord in the beauty of holiness
let all the earth tremble before him    even
this scrap patch
      under the powerline --
      aster, broom, and sideoates,
quaking aspen and milkweed empty handed

and early snow --
how it muffles and sharpens
sweetens the silence

the pylon into a spire

the buffalo grass
heavy with snow
bows its seed heads

the little cricket sings
      with his whole body
      with his only, holy body

ready to shuck off
his black vestments

Psalm 96

Lines one and two are a direct quotation from Psalm 96, I think New King James, but I could be wrong -- I read several different versions. I may ditch the lines, on the "the planks support the house" principle. This verse was the text that got me for Lectio, but now that the house is built, maybe it doesn't need the scaffolding. Or maybe it does. Or maybe I could put it in the title, since "cathedral" might be a bit much. I'm not sure.

An alternate translation to "in the beauty of holiness" would be "in garments of holiness." I know it should be cassock, but that's why it's vestments -- in garments of holiness.....

I've been looking at ukiyo-e again. It always shows....
